patterns on patterns
I like the intricacy implied in this, although it is a really simple method of making empty space more detailed. I simply photocopied an earlier drawing and masked it behind the cut outs. Overall I think this piece works really well even though it was purely an experiment.

mistake? what mistake...
I hadn't originally planned for the base to be circular, however a moment of tired stupidness made me decide to draw a wobbly line which then resulted in me cutting it out. However I really like whats inside the circle, but might do some a bit smaller (this one is 70cm diameter). Have also been thinking about doing something 3d... so this week will produce some maquettes.

cutting
After a crit I decided I wanted to try something different, so I started cutting around a design. The two difficult aspects of this is cutting so it doesn't fall apart, and it is even more time consuming than drawing the patterns. However I'd like to continue with this possibly using fabric. The first image is the sheet of paper underneath the actual piece, and again I might try and use this as I like the fragility of it.

micro-drawing
This stye of working was inspired by a piece I saw in Liverpool by Eva Hesse, Untitled (1967). She uses graph paper and draws circles in each square, however as they're hand drawn the circles are never perfect. I am really interested in this and the way my work morphs and changes as I'm drawing. Unless its digital, seeking perfection is pointless.

richard wilson: turning the place over
Down a small street in Liverpool Ricard Wilson
has cut a chunk out of an old building, and made
it rotate. The problem was, people were too busy
to look up at this, and whilst we were watching a
whole load of people noticed, which was quite
nice.
